Raja Ampat, Diving the Dampier Strait

Raja Ampat, Diving the Dampier Strait

The jungle covered islands of Raja Ampat in West Papua lie in the middle of the Dampier Strait in one of the most bio-diverse regions on the planet.

Between the islands of Gam in the north and Batanta in the south the strait narrows. This causes the waters of the Indonesian Through Flow to surge through the bottleneck bringing deep nutrient rich water to the reefs at the surface.

This is a small slice of the mind blowing biodiversity in the region.
